Threads of Hope
Threads of Hope is a transformational economic development project that empowers women textile artists in the shantytowns of Lima, Peru to create better lives for their families. The project facilitates the sale of their vibrant handcrafted textiles, sometimes known as arpilleras, throughout the United States. With the help of volunteers, businesses, and faith groups approximately 90% of the proceeds generated from the sale of these textiles are returned to the women to reinforce the participating families’ financial welfare. With this support, bright futures are becoming a reality as many of their needs are now met in areas that directly affect their families including: education, housing, and health care. Exquisite detail, vivid color, and the heart of each artist make every Threads of Hope textile a one-of-kind work of art.
These vibrant textiles are intricately handmade by the women artists in the shantytowns. Each leaf, flower, person and animal are meticulously hand cut with fine detail given to each small piece. The women combine embroidery, applique, and quilting in their fiber art to show scenes of rural and city life as well as numerous stories of their faith. This indigenous Peruvian textile art is becoming well known throughout the United States as Threads of Hope expands through volunteer run sales and the web store located at: http://tohtexas.org/products
The women of Threads of Hope send you their best wishes and gratitude for your interest in their work. Their goal, through the work of their hearts and hands, is to change life for generations to come...
